Reading selections will also provide a springboard for writing exercises and the development of formal essays, through which students will explore writing techniques, sentence structure, and grammar. Literature selections will be determined at the beginning of the year, selected from our Literature Scope and Sequence at the back of this catalog. Note: This class is designed so that students can take it two years in a row, with alternating book lists each year.

HI Students! I LOVE where your projects are heading! Most of you had a really good start on your projects. Please share with me the "transcript" or written aspect of your project (examples with Act and scenes, and real life connection). So if you only write these things on your mobile pieces then let me know. If you type and print them out for your mobile pieces just share with me the typed portion. If not all of your typed portion fits on your pieces, that is ok if I also have the typed transcript. Make sense? Please email with questions! Thanks! Mrs. G

Hi Students! I hope you are as excited about your final MSND projects as I am! I cannot wait to put them up in our room! Here is the rubric for the project:
Please review it and email any questions you have. We will have time in class next week to work on it together. Have a great week contemplating the Many Sides of Love in A Midsummer Night's Dream! Have a great week! Mrs. G

Hi Students! I was super excited to see the pictures of your MSND plots on the board!! Wow! Impressive!!! Please read Act 5 this week. That will be your only homework assignment. Have a great weekend! Mrs.G

Monday: Sci-Fi Fantasy

HI Students! We missed those of you who weren't here! This week we will continue to read but take a break from the reading jobs. Please concentrate on starting your own story. Write 300 words this week and please be willing to share with the class next week. If you are continuing to write a story you have already started, then add 300 words to that story. Continue to work on your map adding details and inspiring features that might make your story exciting in the future (large canyons, volcanoes, swamps of Sadness ;( lakes and rivers). Share your progress with the class next week. Thanks! Mrs. G

HI Students! Are we excited or what!?! How about all those awesome character names! Please read the first act of Midsummer Night's Dream (MSND) this week. You choose "Fear" (original) or "No Fear" (translated). Try reading some of the "Fear" just so you can see if you really do understand it. It is not as hard as it seems. Here is a link to the summary video we watched in class: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knSvuVZBk_g
Attempt to finish your flow chart/notes on the play. Don't worry no quiz next week! Take care! Mrs. G

Monday: Creative Writing

Hi Students! Thank you for your beautiful poems! You did a really great job on these. For next week, bring the lyrics to a song you really like. If you can copy and paste it onto a Google Doc with the title and artist, that would be great. Also, please underline all of the cool images in the lyrics. If you have a song that you have written, please feel free to bring the lyrics to that as well. Have a great week! Mrs. G

HI Students! Great start to these essays. I tried to comment in everyone's essay a little today. At the end of class we talked about the key words in our thesis statements. Make a list of those key words and make sure you revisit them at least twice in every paragraph. This will ensure that you are coming back around to your thesis each time (synonyms are fine). Also, keep it formal. Write like a scholar on the subject of Tom Sawyer. Identify words and phrases that seem "conversational" and reword them. Here is a rubric for this essay:https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Bu3ri-PeNLhpp_tUhWYvCC5BjgXXQkSkHQIojH095KU/edit?usp=sharing
Please share this with me by class next week. Have a great week! Email with any questions! Mrs. G

Tuesday: Sci-Fi Fantasy

Hi Students!
  • Please read up to page 66. Remember what your job is for this week: Ben/Jack: Question Masters ( 5 thought provoking questions)
  • Ian: Vocab Master (10 "hard or interesting words and their definitions)
  • Artist: Drew (any depiction from this week's reading. This doesn't have to be in a Google Doc and it can be using any medium.)
Quick Reader: Summary in a paragraph of this week's reading
  • Please do these assignments in a Google Doc and share it with me by class time.

  • Please begin drawing a map of your fantasy or sci-fi world. It is ok if your story has not been written. This is a chance to start writing a story from the foundation of a map. If you have any ideas while reading or "mapping," write them down in a notebook or create a working google Doc. We will share ideas next week.
Thanks! Great to be back with all of you! Mrs. G
