Reading selections will also provide a springboard for writing exercises and the development of formal essays, through which students will explore writing techniques, sentence structure, and grammar. Literature selections will be determined at the beginning of the year, selected from our Literature Scope and Sequence at the back of this catalog. Note: This class is designed so that students can take it two years in a row, with alternating book lists each year.

Hi Students, Please fill in the conflict boxes on the handout I gave you. The top boxes are for examples from the book and the boxes underneath are for your own experience with the different conflicts. The sudden volcanic explosion in New Zealand that killed several people in the news today is an example of Man vs. Nature. Please read up to ch. 20 this week as well. We will have another quiz next week. Thanks! Mrs. G

Check grades!

Hi Everyone, just a reminder to check infinite Campus this week to see if you are missing anything. Do not send me an email saying, "I did this." If you think you did do it and it shows as missing, then resend it to me in an email or reshare it. I will need to have grades in by Dec. 13 for High School students. I will accept missing work or corrected work until 12/13. Thanks! Mrs. G

HI Students! I missed you today! I am sad we were not able to have our in-class slide show workshop. Please share with me your slide show now so that I can check in with you and make some comments. Look for an email from me sharing my comments with you this week. If I need you to alter it in some way you will need to do that by next Wednesday. Everyone will present in class next week. I do not want you to have to worry about these during the break. Thanks! Mrs. G

  1. The narrator of the poem is sad because his lost love is dead.  What is her name and how does he try to escape his sorrow?
  2. How does the demeanor of the poem's speaker change from the beginning of the poem to the end?
  3. What do you believe the Raven symbolizes or represents?
  4. What do you think is the creepiest or spookiest line of this poem? and why?
  5. What is the effect of the repetition throughout the poem?
  6. If you were going to describe the narrator, how would you do it?

Monday: Lit Comp 1

HI Students! Great to see you yesterday! We are sticking with our "bird" theme. This week please read this classic spooky poem:

This is an old poem and has some difficult language. For more info and a funny video please go to tps://www.shmoop.com/the-raven/summary.html

Rewrite the poem into a modern day situation. Keep the element of rhyme and make it spooky. It does not have to be 4 pages long! But long enough to get your story on the page. Have fun!

Hi Students! I loved your additions to The White Heron today! You really took it in a very different and...creative direction! This week please read the rest of "The Scarlet Ibis" for homework.  Here is the link to the story: http://jjett.pbworks.com/w/file/fetch/97072218/The_Scarlet_Ibis.pdf
Please write your answers in 2-3 complete sentences. Make sure you look over your written answers to make sure that they "make sense" in terms of wording and grammar.
Have a great week! Thanks! Mrs. G
