Note: This class is designed so that students can take it two years in a row, with alternating book lists each year.

Monday: Lit Comp 2

HI Students! Nice job with your choice books this week! You all picked such different books! We will do this exact same thing next week and we will create our "Literarium" (Get it? It's like a terrarium but with books!) FUN! So please do fill out your book commercial from last week and also do one of the book you are reading this week. If you can finish your book then GREAT but if not that is fine too. Pick something that really interests you and a book that you will enjoy spending time reading. Also, At least one time this week have your book with you and try to read in an unexpected place: Bathtub, waiting for your ride after practice, in the car...etc. Let's get in the "habit" of reading anywhere! Bring your book to class! Thanks! Mrs. G

Bring your book!

Hi Students! Please bring your choice book to class this week as you will have a bit of reading time in class. If you finished your book, then bring the NEXT book you want to read! Thanks! I hope you are enjoying this awesome Colorado weather! Take care! Mrs. G

Monday: Lit Comp 2

Hi Students! Great job on your presentations today. I really enjoyed listening to those! This week you are choosing a book (any book!) to read. Please read the whole book! If you know you do not read quickly, then choose a shorter novel. Here is the "Book Commercial" outline. Please answer the questions thoroughly and be ready to talk about our book in class.
Please bring your book plus a new book you want to read! Have a great week! Mrs. G

Here is the exemplar (It is not perfect, but you get the idea):
With your presentation you will need to have a written document. Here is a format for that part of the project: https://docs.google.com/document/d/19BY9ye1JP5ag5-73xzm_I-H2QbsUZcHShX4uQLgijlE/edit?usp=sharing

Next week in class, please take the time to work on your presentation. If you are working with a partner, you may do so quietly. Take that time to do all of the written parts.

Monday: Lit Comp 2

Hi Students! A good portion of you are missing your Julius Caesar Reading Guide #1. Please double check that you have shared this with me. It is "missing" in the gradebook. Let's start the semester off well without any "M's" !  Thanks! Mrs. G

Missing Assignments

Hi Everyone, just a reminder to check infinite Campus this week to see if you are missing anything. Do not send me an email saying, "I did this." If you think you did do it and it shows as missing, then resend it to me in an email. I will need to have grades in by Dec. 14 for High School students. I will accept missing work or corrected work until 12/14. Thanks! Mrs. G

Hi students! This week please complete a detailed outline of the Dr. Jekyll essay. Also, please write an introduction to your essay. Here is a small video about writing a great intro:
  1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WDclqoGouY
Include three quotes in the three body paragraphs that support your chosen thesis. Please include those quotes in your outline so that you can easily copy and paste them into your in-class essay. Your conclusion will simply wrap up your essay and recap your thesis and the points you made throughout in different words.
In class next week we will finish writing the Jekyll/Hyde essay. Think of it like an essay test but you may use all of your notes, book, outline, intro paragraph. You may even pre-write your essay this week and simply share it with me in class. You can decide what you need to make the writing process smooth for you in class. This essay test situation will eliminate having an essay hanging over your head before the holidays.
Please do cite your quotations using the chapter number. Here are the chapters and their titles:
  • Chapter 1. The Story of the Door.
  • Chapter 2. Search for Mr Hyde.
  • Chapter 3. Dr Jekyll Was Quite At Ease.
  • Chapter 4. The Carew Murder Case.
  • Chapter 5. The Incident of the Letter.
  • Chapter 6. The Incident of Dr. Lanyon.
  • Chapter 7. The Incident At the Window.
  • Chapter 8. The Last Night.
  • Chapter 9: “Dr. Lanyon's Narrative”
  • Chapter 10: “Henry Jekyll's Full Statement of the Case”
  •
  • Here is a template for the outline: I gave some of you the wrong one. Sorry!
