Hi Students,  Great job this morning on the Victorian Jigsaw! So much to talk about! So little Time!
Please finish the book over the break. We will have a short and easy quiz on the basics of the book on Monday 12/2/19.

As you read, contemplate these thesis statements:

Thesis 1: Jekyll was completely unjustified in his choice to experiment on himself for these three reasons:

Thesis 2: Jekyll was completely justified in his choice to experiment on himself for these three reasons:

Thesis 3: Jekyll’s choice to experiment on himself was justifiable for these reasons:  but unacceptable for these reasons:

Remember you will need quotes from the book to back up your reasons. So, as you read, make a note(s) if you think it will help in your future essay. We will work on the essay after we come back from Thanksgiving break. Have a wonderful time with your families! Thanks! Mrs. G

Monday:Lit Comp 2

Hi Students! I know you were so upset to have our class and thus presentations cancelled yesterday! Me too! Tragic! Be ready to present next week. If you have not shared your slide show with me please do so now. Also, please review your presentation the night before so it is "fresh" in your mind for Monday morning!
For HW: Read this class spooky story and we will discuss it if we have time in class. http://thisamericanlyric2015.qwriting.qc.cuny.edu/files/2015/01/Poe-The-Raven.pdf
If that doesn't work simple do a Google search for The Raven  PDF by Edgar Allen Poe. It starts:

"Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore, While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door. "'Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber doorOnly this, and nothing more."

Have a great week! Mrs. G

Monday: Lit Comp 1

HI Students! It looks like you are all making great progress on your Slide Show Essay! Double check to make sure that, in your thesis statement, you have an opinion about your topic. You'll need to have a thesis that you can support with text evidence. All of you seemed to have a good sense of direction. Share your slide show with me before class next week.  Don't forget to double check the rubric. Thanks! Mrs. G

Hi Students! Great class today! FUN discussion on the first chapter of OMAM. You all annotated your books so thoroughly! I'm so glad you are enjoying this book. This week please read chapter two and finish this reading guide You can answer questions using both ch. and 2:
Please remember to make a copy first and then write in that. Continue to annotate your book with little sticky notes, 15+ per chapter.
Thanks! Have a great week! Mrs. G

Monday Lit. Comp 2

HI Students for homework this week Please read the first chapter of Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men.
Annotation is an important part of close reading. Making tons of notes in the margin is basically what annotating means. You can make a note about anything but here are some ideas:
Descriptions that demonstrate imagery, setting, characters
Things that seem like they might be important later i.e., symbolic items like animals, objects, colors,
metaphors: when the author compares two unlike things in order to describe something ex: The fog, a chilly blanket of mist, settled on the city.
An aspect of the story you like or have a question about. Please use the sticky notes that I gave you in class. You should have about 15-20  notes in the book. Thanks and
Good Luck! Mrs. G
