Welcome Letter

APEX Middle/High School Language Arts

Carrie Mitchell

I am so happy to be on the APEX team again this year! I will  be teaching Tuesdays & Thursdays and  am looking forward to meeting parents and students and helping you find success in English language arts. My courses include Literature & Composition 1, 2 & 3; Foundations of English; Fantasy & Science Fiction; Advanced Placement Language and Composition; and Advanced Placement Literature and Composition.

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS

These are simple and in accordance with the PBS rules in the APEX student handbook.

~BE RESPECTFUL of yourself, others and the environment

~BE RESPONSIBLE come prepared and ready to participate

~BE SAFE and consider the consequence of your actions

Partnering together in this way, we seek to develop a community characterized by caring for ourselves and others and to create a learning environment where creativity and academic excellence will thrive.

HOMEWORK EXPECTATIONS

The amount of homework per week that students will have is dependent on the rating of the class selected. The amount will vary and is approximate. The ratings translate  as follows:

3 = two hours of work outside of class per week

4 = three hours of work outside of class per week

5 = four hours of work outside of class per week

5+ = five hours (or more) of work outside of class per week

Assignments are designed to help students think about and apply what they have learned in class. Please make every effort to turn in homework on time. Ten percent will be deducted for each week an assignment is late. Students are responsible for work missed when absent, both in class and homework assignments.

COMMUNICATION

Always feel free to contact me by email at [email protected]. Additionally, I will update the website after each class day. This will include a general summary of our activities, as well as the homework that needs to be completed for the following meeting. Specific information and supplementary materials can be accessed in my Google Classroom. You can and should keep track of grades on Infinite Campus on a regular basis. Check the student handbook for information on these digital resources.
