Description: The curriculum for this course follows the criteria required by the Advanced Placement College Board Program. This course will prepare students to take the AP Literature and Composition Exam in May for which there is a fee. College credit can be earned based on test performance. Course content includes the intensive study of novels, plays, short stories and poetry from a wide variety of authors. Students will write an analytical essay, and engage in individual and group projects and presentations. Summer homework required.

I. Consider This: "Theme for English B" by Langston Hughes
Read and discuss as a class what this poem means on the surface and what it also means, and how the author achieves this.
II. Poetry Analysis Essay
Hand the hard copy of your essay to the person on your left.
As an editor, please look for and correct/mark issues with verb tense, pronoun reference, first/second person, incorporation and citation of quotes, etc.
Make sure the thesis is underlined and that it is supported in the essay.
Add any other comments/corrections/suggestions you have to help the writer achieve
his/her purpose.
Then, when you get yours back, look at the editing, clean it up and make sure it's shared
with me.
