If you have not shared these things we me, please do so ASAP. Thanks! Mrs. G

Monday: Speech and Debate

Hi students, thank you to all those who gave their TEd Talks today. Next week we will hear the remaining students give their speeches. Please do share with me your transcript and your outline. If you have already done so via Google Docs then that is great. If they are handwritten, then bring to class next week.
Thanks again, Mrs. G

Monday: Speech and Debate

Hi Students, this week prepare to give your Ted Talk Monday, 11/11. Also, please submit a transcript of your TEd Talk to me.  Write the entire thing out in a Google doc and share with me or bring to class. Review the rubric to make sure you are hitting all the points. Have a good portion of it memorized with key points on your cards. Feel free to use visuals but be organized and very familiar with where they go and how to access them. The time frame is 5-8 minutes. Please take this seriously. I will stop you if you seem unprepared or if you are "winging it". I am looking forward to it! Thanks! Mrs. G

Monday: Speech and Debate

Hi Students, I know you were very upset to have the first two classes cancelled yesterday! Me too! This week continue to work on your TedTalk. I want it to be fully written by next week, all 5-8 minutes of it. We won't give them in class but I will check in with each of you to make sure you are on the right track.
Here is a youtube video about constructing a powerful speech: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohZk7pPJN8o&t=176s
The following week (11/11) we will give our speeches.
Have a great week! Stay cozy! Mrs. G

Monday: Speech and Debate

Hi Students, This week please begin preparing your TEd Talk.
In class we will be workshopping these TEd Talks. You will need to come to class with most of your speech prepared. I will meet with you one on one to make sure you are on track and ready to give your speech. Have a great week, Mrs. G

Monday: Speech and Debate

Hi Students! I forgot that I actually made a sheet for you to fill out for your Homework and here it is! Please choose your TED talk and fill it out.

If you have not turned into me the three examples of Ethos, Pathos and Logos from this week, please share that with me. Also, I need the Nelson Mandela Speech HW as well. Have a great week! Mrs. G

Monday: Speech and Debate

Hi Students, This week using your Ethos, Logos and pathos reference sheet, please find an example (appropriate, please!) for each of those rhetorical appeals (def: the art of effective or persuasive speaking or writing, especially the use of figures of speech and other compositional techniques.). It could be a short youtube clip, an ad in a magazine, commercial, etc. Insert them into a doc so that I can see and explain how they represent Ethos, pathos, or logos. I will choose some of the best examples to show in class.
Title the assignment: Your Name: Ethos, Logos, Pathos Examples
Thanks! Have a great week! Mrs. G

Monday: Speech and Debate

Hi Students: Thank you for your reflections. P{lease make sure you shared those things with me. This week we will shift gears and listen to a powerful speech by Nelson Mandela. Here is a link to a video explaining who he was:

HW: watch Nelson Mandela’s Speech “I am Prepared to Die”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQvlxnWELHM

here are the homework questions:

HI Students! As usual, it was a wild ride this morning! Here is the rubric for the How to Speeches: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Qiu-trxlYkrR6CyDZGTYJn_Yh_R0HrFL5sObIwJRruQ/edit?usp=sharing
If you are giving your speech again (feel free to change subject matter if you want to) please read over the instructions : Begin thinking about a skill or activity you will teach to two different audiences in two different ways. It will be the same skill but taught in completely different ways based on the audience. We will talk about it in class a little bit more next week and then present the following week or Sept 23rd.
Thanks, Mrs. G

Monday: Speech and Debate

HI Students! I am really looking forward to your "How to" speeches next week. Below is the link to the rubric so you can see the kinds of things I will be grading on. So practice it and time yourself. We will choose the order of the speeches first thing in class and then get through as many people as we can.
Thanks! Mrs. G

Monday: Speech and Debate

Hi Students! WOW! Thanks for speaking in class today! We are going to have a lot of fun together this year! As we started to discuss in class today, audience is a major factor in how we write speeches and how we give them. In this week's homework, we will explore different audiences and how our speech writing might differ for each one. Here is the homework link:
