Monday: World Myth

Hi Ben and Luke! This was a crazy week! We missed you Ben. Please watch this myth of the Dogon tribe.
The Dogon are an ethnic group living in the central plateau region of Mali, in West Africa, south of the Niger bend, near the city of Bandiagara and in Burkina Faso. The population numbers between 400,000 and 800,000. It is a much different creation myth involving pottery and other interesting elements! Please draw your own version of the Nummo twins (yikes!) Please also practice your African geography and we will have another map quiz challenge in class! Have a great week and stay war and cozy! Mrs. G

Monday: World Myth

Hi Ben and Luke, This week please study your African map. We will challenge each other in an African Map face off. Here is a link to a map to study:
Luke, here is the blank map if you want to print it and color for practice: http://www.supercoloring.com/coloring-pages/outline-map-of-africa-with-countries
You'll notice a couple of borders need to drawn in as the coloring map is a bit out of date.
Next week we will begin going over the individual gods/goddesses of the Yoruba people. Have a great week! Mrs. G

Monday: World Myth

HI Students! The African Gods and Goddesses we are going to be exploring this week are from the Yoruba People of Africa. Please do some research as to who the Yoruba people are and what region of Africa they live. Collect your information and write a 200 word paragraph about the Yoruba people in your own words. In class we will practice our African Geography! Have a great week! Mrs. G

Hi Ben and Luke, Great job on your Codex! You are both great writers and have awesome imaginations! This week we will take a moment to look at the purpose of mythology in a culture or society and origin myth in general. Do your best to fill in the blanks at home. If you have any questions, we will talk about it in class. Have a great week, Mrs. G

Monday: World Myth

Hi Students your Codex is looking lovely! Please bring it finished with the final reference guide to class next week. We will decipher each other's codex and move on to our next unit. Thanks! Mrs. G

Monday: World Myth

HI Students, Please be sure to bring your completed myth and all of your 50 pictographs. You can repeat the pictographs if you need to repeat the words. Start "inscribing" them in your folded codex. We will finish in class next week and embellish the cover. Remember your myth needs to refer to 3 specifically Mayan things such as pyramids, Quetzal Coatl, the Mayan ball game, one or more of the gods, cacoa, etc.  You will need a reference guide for your pictographs as well to help us decipher your codex! Have a great week! Mrs. G

Monday: World Myth

Hi students! This week finish writing your Mayan myth. Please include three references to things that are distinctly Mayan such as pyramids, maize, temples, the ball game, the Hero Twins, etc. Also, Draw at least 25 of the 50 pictographs that will tell your myth. You will need to be making a reference guide to go with your codex so that we can decipher your myth. We will continue to work on your Codex (folding book) in class. Have a great week, Mrs. G

Monday: World Myth

Hi Students, Thank you for a lively discussion regarding the Mayans and math! This week please watch this video about the Mayans and their beliefs regarding the "Underworld." Here is the link. Please skip any ads: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYcWs7qJeCI
After watching this video, please write a paragraph summarizing how the Mayans felt about this place and what they believed about the Underworld. Your paragraph should have 6-7 complete sentences. Please open a new Google Doc and title it : Your Name: The Mayan Underworld
Please then share the document with me: [email protected]
Thanks! Have a great week! Mrs. G

HI Ben and Luke!
Have a great couple of weeks! Finish those questions on the back of your Hero Twins Myth in complete sentences, please! I think 3-4 sentences each should be sufficient. Thanks! Take Care! Mrs. G
