Morrison - US Government/Civics Assignments

Well, we do live in interesting times!  Look at it this way, you'll have a heck of a story to tell your grandchildren!  Anyway, we are scrambling here at APEX to keep the semester on track for you all.  To that end, I have been asked to assign work this week to keep gov. moving so we can complete the entire curriculum.  I think the best way for us to do that is to have you complete a chapter assignment while I get some other stuff figured out.  Please complete the assignment (including the outlining) in a Google doc and share it with me.  I miss you all and hope you and your families are well.  Please don't hesitate to email me, even just to let me know how you are doing.

Please read Chapter 9 in your text and prepare for an open-note quiz over the material next week.

Please read Chapter 8 in your text and take outline notes for an open-note quiz next week.

Please look online to complete your The U.S. Presidency fill in the blank assignment.

1.       Please read the essay Give Divided Government a Chance on pages 228-229 in your text and answer the following prompt in at least 3 well-developed paragraphs. Is divided government good for the nation or does it create unnecessary roadblocks that impede progress in policy?
2.       Please complete any remaining sections of your legislative packet EXCEPT the Redistricting Game.  I will give you some more time to play the game at school next week.
3.       Please put your name on the top of your ballot sheet and express your opinion on the four proposed congressional reforms.  Then write a well-developed paragraph (at least 7 sentences) with a definitive topic sentence taking a stand on each of the four reforms.

1.       Please circle the committee assignments for both Colorado senators and your district’s congressman on the Current Committees assignment.  Choose the committee assignment (of the three you circled) that is the most interesting topic to you personally and complete the rest of the assignment based on that committee.

2.       Please reassemble your Federalism puzzle and glue it to a paper.

1.  Please spend 1 hour and outline the Constitution and Amendments to the Constitution.  DO NOT allow yourself more than an hour to do this.  There are only 7 sections in the Constitution and 27 Amendments.  This is a time exercise.  After 1 hour, stop your work where you are and bring it in to show me.

 

2.  Please complete the Constitution Scavenger Hunt you received in class.

Please use the assignment you did in class this week and the essay template I gave you to write a formal 5-paragraph essay on whether the Federalists or the Anti-federalists had the best argument for how to fix the Articles of Confederation (what the new constitution should dictate).  Be sure to proof your work for spelling and grammar.

Please read Chapter 4.1- 4.4.  I had planned to have you all write a 5-paragraph essay on whether the Federalists or the Anti-federalists had the best argument for how to fix the Articles of Confederation (what the new constitution should dictate).  But, with two students absent, I was not able to prepare you for the assignment.  So,  I want you to do outline notes of those sections and add a note to yourself about anything in them that will help you write the essay for homework next week.

Please complete Lesson 4:  How did Modern Ideas of Individual Rights Develop? and answer the questions throughout the chapter (indicate the page number and question number in your homework).  Be sure to include the 7 review questions at the end of the chapter in your work.

Please complete the What Would Life Be Like in a State of Nature? assignment you received in class.

1.      Write 3-4 well-developed (5-8 sentences) paragraphs explaining what you think would happen if your island society was left on the island for 100 years. What changes would have to made to keep the society stable?  Why?
2.      Please complete the Age of Reason packet you received in class.

Please complete your Lost:  Building a New Society project.  The last question in the packet asks, "What are the advantages and disadvantages of each system?"  Answer that question on separate paper by making a T chart for each of the four forms of government and three forms of economic systems that are described in the packet.  Then circle the T chart of the government system that most resembles what you designed for the island and circle the T chart of the economic system that most resembles your society.  That is where we will pick up class next Tuesday.  Have a great week!
