Description: This course will begin with a study of the ancient world including the rise and fall of the wondrous Greek, Roman and Egyptian Empires. By the end of the year, we will move forward in time to the Post Classical Era when Europe experienced the Dark Ages, Islam spread beyond the Middle East, the Maya ruled in the Americas, Imperial China fell into chaos during the Six Dynasties Era, and the Ghana Empire got rich trading gold and salt under a system of silent barter where the traders were forbidden to talk! Activities in class include group discussions and student presentations. Students will be required to do grade appropriate reading and writing exercises on the various topics throughout the year.
