Description:  Throughout the year, students will chronicle all the happenings at APEX and create a full yearbook for the high school student body. Students will learn principles of good writing, editing, formatting, graphic design and layout using computers to put together the yearbook.

What We Did:

  • Participation grade is being added later in the month-- we talked about what we think is fair for participation 
  • Practice ladder for the book
  • How long will each section be? What does each section want for the book?
  • What do we want in our book this year? 

What to Work On:

  • Always take pictures! 
  • Keep thinking about your section 

What We Plan to Do Next Week: 

  • Theme for the yearbook
  • Style guide for the yearbook 

Week of September 23: Yearbook-Journalism

What We Did:

  • Yearbook jobs 
  • Logging in to our yearbook software: myhjyearbook.com
  • Uploading photos
  • Tagging photos appropriately 

What to Work On:

  • Always take photos of what’s going on at APEX!
  • Think about the section of the yearbook you’ll be working- what are some ideas you have for pages, stories, etc. 

What We Plan to Do Next Week: 

  • Draft Ladder- first draft of our yearbook pages 
  • Start thinking about our theme and style guide 

Week of September 16: Yearbook-Journalism

What We Did:

  • Applied for jobs
  • Review of photography basics
  • Started taking pictures 

What to Work On:

  • Take pictures! Always be taking pictures at APEX for the yearbook :) 

What We Plan to Do Next Week: 

  • Job assignments
  • Logging in to myhjyearbook.com 
  • Uploading photos and tagging photos

Welcome to the tech lab!  We had a great first week of school!  Each week I will send home a weekly newsletter.  It’ll be a bulleted list of what we’ve done during the week, what students can work on at home, and our plans for the following week.  Sometimes plans change, but this is largely what will be coming up in class. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. I’m looking forward to a great year with the students in the tech lab!
