I realized I made a silly miss statement in class today. The U.S. DOES follow the Rank Size Rule. What we don't have that most places have is a primate city for our top rank. They are related concepts but not the same. In our case we have several cities with inordinate influence in differing ways. New York is our financial capital, D.C. is our political capital, and L.A. is our pop culture capital. In the case of a primate city, they are all centered on the largest city in the country.

Please read Chapter 9 and complete the attached KBAT

Please go to AP Central and take your Unit 5 practice formative exams.

Please complete Sections 5.1 - 5.5 only this week. We will finish later after we have reviewed more in class so it goes faster for you.

Please complete a region of your choice in your map book. Then use the map book descriptions and/or the CIA World Factbook to give accurate examples of 15 terms from this unit's KBAT in that region. Remember, think about concepts spatially in regions and patterns at different scales.

Please complete the online MCQ and FRQ practice for Unit 4.

Please define terms and explain the models or theories on this KBAT. You will find it very helpful if you DRAW images to illustrate models and theories in this unit so you will recognize them if they are illustrated on the exam.

Please skip ahead to Chapter 11 for Unit 5 on Agriculture and Rural Land-Use Patterns and Processes.

Please take this open book/note. Let me know if you have trouble with the document. I am trying to save time on converting documents but I absolutely can if Word is a problem for any of you.

Please define all Unit 4 terms and answer the Be Able To questions.

Please do this one first to get our heads back into the material after break.

Please complete that assignments in the 12/16 packet. Then read the material on Boko Haram. Use a minimum of 10 political Geography concepts to explain the rise of Boko Haram and why it remains so powerful.

Please complete the attached assignment on ONE of the maps on pages 22 - 27 of your map book. Please skip any terms that clearly don't apply to the maps we are using like the US gerrymandering stuff or the Treaty of Westphalia.

Please write definitions, give examples, or explain each of these concepts to demonstrate your understanding. Remember, don't spend forever looking for it in the text. Google it if you need to. This is from the College Board course outline, not the text. The text is just a learning resource to get you ready for the test.

Sorry, I lost track of time today and then the wifi cut out before I could apologize! Please go to AP Central and take the formative assessments for Unit 3. Then take a breather over the weekend before we kick off Unit 4:). This was the toughest unit and you deserve a bit of a rest! As always, follow the guidelines for taking the test and limit your time. This is a participation grade.

Shoot for about 80-90% of this filled out with your main focus on major religions, where they are, their diffusion, and visual images like symbols, clothing, and architecture. Remember, you won't be tested over minute details. You just want to understand the important stuff and how it affects the cultural landscape.

Please use whichever instrument you prefer to study Chapter 5 content. You DO NOT have to do both. Use the one you think is most helpful to you.

Please read Chapter 4 and then answer these review questions. Try to answer them without looking and then look again if you need to.

I'm putting this in as an assessment grade for easy assessment points for you. But, make sure you do it thoroughly so it doesn't drag down your overall grade.

Please go to AP Central and take the MCQ and FRQ formative assessments for Unit 2. This will be a participation grade with no regard for your scores. Just do your best.

I tried to get together some good instructions for you to proceed the way I planned. But the further I got into it the more it seems like it will be a hassle on your end. So, I'm going to assign the unit review now with an extended due date. But, please make sure to make good time on it because we will have to make up some ground next week.

I know I said in class today that you should shoot for 1/2 chapter per week. But, now that I think of it, let's try to have the chapter work done in 3 weeks instead of 4 so we can save that last week for unit review and filling out information/concepts that are on the KBAT but not well covered by the text. So, please try to do about 2/3 of a chapter each of the next three weeks. Just keep adding to the table on case studies as you go through the chapters. The idea behind the KBATS is that if you do them well, that is all the studying you will need to do in addition to our classwork to prepare for the exam next spring.

Use the map book I sent home for you to complete this assignment. It is yours to keep so go ahead and color directly in it. Please follow the instructions on how to color the map as the assignment asks you to. Remember, one major key to success on the exam is repetitive re-exposure to information and concepts. These assignments are designed to help your brain attend to the information it needs to be able to recall or reason your way to answers on the exam by giving context and practice.

Please log onto AP Central and take the unlocked MCQ and FRQ quiz components. Please do it without using any extra materials (off the top of your head). I am counting this as a participation grade so your scores won't affect your grade. We just want authentic practice:)

Please complete the following assignment and return it to me in some way through our Google classroom. I will include an editable Google Doc if you want to print it out, complete it, scan it or take a photo of it and paste them back into the Doc. A faster way would be for you to download a free PDF writer app that will let you write (type) over the top of the pdf and just return it to me. I'm sure you tech saavy students have other ways as well but those are the ones I know about right now.

1. Please transfer the region lines and identifying letters on page three onto the world map on page 1. Then draw the lines only in Sharpie on your globe ball.
2. Use the chart of region names on page 1 to figure out which letter corresponds to each region and write the letter in the chart. IF you can identify a country or two in each region without looking at a map (from recognition), list them on the chart too. Leave it blank if you can't.
3. Use the map and chart on page 2 to identify macrocultural regions. If you can think of an identifying commonality to each region, list it. If not, you are done for now!

Please complete your answers in the Google Doc to turn them in.

This is a list of essential concepts from Unit 1but they are not the only concepts that will be helpful to you. Please read Chapter 1 THOROUGHLY before you even look at the KBAT (stands for Know and Be Able To). Then, without looking back at your book, try to write the definition of each term in a complete sentence to turn in by 5pm next Tuesday (class does not meet on Labor Day). Finally, go back into the chapter to check your definitions and look up any that you did not remember to finish the assignment.
