This week you will be reading about endangered species. You will develop an argument to explain how species become endangered and thereby become extinct. You will be Investigating how biodiversity describes the variety of species found on Earth and assessing how changes in biodiversity influence humans’ resources and ecosystem services and which human activities affect biodiversity and ecosystems.
Activity: DE Board week 38 4/27/2020 Endangered Species.
Be thinking about one animal on the Endangered Species list you would like to examine in more detail, this will tie into our activity next week.

We reviewed for our test on Plate Tectonics next Monday 2/24, playing the Kahoot Game. Be sure to bring a 3x5 notecard, written on both sides(this is extra credit) and your completed vocabulary logs (counted as a 25 point test grade) to use on the test.

We viewed a few power points about Plate Boundaries and completed a lab to demonstrate this theory with graham crackers and pudding.
Homework:
1. Be sure to update your vocabulary and have all terms for Plate Tectonics completed. I have attached a list to double check your words against.
2. Complete the Discovery Education Board: Plate Tectonics Board #5 Earthquakes. I have included a lot of your vocabulary in this board. Be sure to read all the directions in the board and complete the exploration assigned.

Review activity for Studying Materials scientifically; today we played Kahoot (a computer game to help understand concepts)
You will have your first test next week.
Make sure you bring all your completed Vocabulary log sheets and you will use a 3x5 Notecard with handwritten notes on both sides to use on the test- You will be turning them in with your test. These are required and you will be getting a grade for them.

Homework:
Study for test.
Prepare 3x5 inch note card
Compete vocabulary log.
SMS activity 11- this is the take-home part of your test, you will do this individually at home (the activity mentions discussing things with your group, just do it all individually)- You will turn in the SMS activity 11.1 worksheet and the SMS activity 11 analysis questions.

Your test next week will have 4 separate grades (1- test, 2- note card, 3- vocabulary log, 4- SMS activity 11)

Activity 9: Mass and Density; We discussed the lab we were not able to complete since we did not meet last week. Also, I worked with students on completing the Mass_density_volume WS- Science 8 density review.

*** All students need to have all words updated by next week. I handed out a complete list of our vocabulary words in this unit so they have their vocabulary notes updated for the test Monday, November 18th.

Today we reviewed our labs so far on unidentified liquids and solids. We went over SMS (Studying Scientific Materials) activities 1-7 that we have completed so far.
Also, I reviewed the procedures of Discovery Education Curriculum and worked on making sure all students logged on and understood how to submit any missing work.
We reviewed all vocabulary students should have entered in their vocabulary log which they can use on the test.
Homework: No new Homework. Students need to complete any missing work they have in the Studying Material Scientifically or Discovery Education. Be sure all vocabulary is up to date in your vocabulary log.

1. This week we continued to study mixtures and how to separate. We read through activity #3 in class and viewed lab items we might use to separate a mixture. Students worked on the
Activity 3 "A Plan to Separate the Mixture" paper and developed a procedure they would use to separate the mixture.
2. We continued to discuss Hazardous Materials at Home- Activity #4: Together we read a short play in Activity 4 and went over the 4 questions to answer. We completed 4.1 pdf in class.


Homework:
Complete the questions in activity 3 and 4 - Both #3 and #4 were handed out in class and also attached to this post.
