Dr. William Hinkie has been playing music since the age of 9 when he started violin in his public school music program in Louisiana. He has played with the Baton Rouge Symphony, the AkronSymphony, the Shreveport Symphony, the Boulder Symphony, the Colorado Springs Philharmonic, and the Colorado Ballet Orchestra. He was also the principal violist of the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra for 9 seasons. In addition to this, Dr. Hinkie was the assistant principal violist with the Aspen Festival Orchestra while attending the festival for four summers as an orchestra Fellowship recipient. Dr. Hinkie received his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education and Violin Performance from Louisiana State University, a Master of Music in Viola performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Minnesota. He currently teaches violin, viola, and cello in the Denver Metro. In addition to his private teaching experience, Dr. Hinkie has also taught orchestra and music at the primary and secondary levels in public schools in Louisiana, Ohio, Tennessee, Minnesota, Texas and Colorado. From 2012 to 2014 Dr. Hinkie served as the first Lead Teaching Artist for the ElSistema Colorado program in Denver where he designed and helped implement the music curriculum for an in-school and after-school program. For five summers he was also on the artist faculty of the Interlochen Arts Camp where he taught violin, viola, cello, and chamber music.  He is currently a faculty member at the Rocky Ridge Music Center in Estes Park.  Dr.Hinkie often serves as a clinician and consultant for public school orchestra teachers and programs throughout the state of Colorado.  In addition to this, he is also part of the teaching team for the Brastche Bunch, an online community he has helped create and implement for adult violists of all levels.  He and his husband currently live in Broomfield, CO where they enjoy taking care of their two fish, Ludwig (after Beethoven) and Wolfgang (after Mozart)!  Traveling the world to see and explore music and music history in other places is also one of Dr. Hinkie’s passions!
