Description: Step back in time in this hands-on, interactive class. High school students will build on their knowledge of historical events to debate, discuss, and analyze their influence on modern American society. Students will experience history through activities such as putting themselves in the place of revolutionaries, traveling along with Lewis and Clark, and imagining they are Truman debating the use of the atomic bomb. Students will look at pictures, listen to recordings, and read old documents as history comes alive! We will trace advancements in politics, economics, and social trends and look at how they apply to the challenges the US faces today. Activities in class will include group discussions and student presentations. Students will be required to do grade-appropriate reading and writing exercises on the various topics throughout the year.
