BREAK

One message to all K-12 PE students.... I am bummed not to meet with my classes & encourage everyone to seek out activity during this time.  It is so important to get your heart rate up, breathe deeply, and feel tired muscles!  We only meet once/week (except 1 student) and for some you are very active with or without PE.  Stay that way.  For others, start making time for activity!  We talk a lot about fitness & you are experts in exercise!  I hope when we come back I hear of all sorts of ways you stayed active & games you invented!  Until then... take care!

MARCH MADNESS

Oh how I wish we had a basketball court :)
Regardless--having fun & learning about fitness....
Jumping Rope is happening-- most inexpensive quickest way to get fit!  We will do a little bit for the month of March--if you can do it at home w/them -- as is the way w/so many things, the better we are the more fun it is.
We are also doing soccer & some other foot-eye coordination games.
Enjoy the month of March!

February -- hand/eye coordination

We did a couple weeks of pickle ball in upper grades, working on racket skills with the lower grades.  Controlling beach balls and balloons with K-2.  We also did the pacer test-- as well as all the other physical fitness tests.  Just checking in to see where we are with upper body strength, core, agility and endurance.  The students are asked to perform better on the spring testing than the Fall.... a show of what we can do when we set are mind to do something.  Based on the winter scores they will know if they need to start doing more activity to improve or what they are doing now is working.  We will move into foot pong and Hantis for the rest of February.  Leap year... Happy Birthday to the one second grader I know with a Feb. 29th birthday!!!!!

HAPPY & HEALTHY 2020!

So fun to start up school again!  The month of January will be a refresher on fitness testing-- with a focus on making progress for the April/May time frame.  Stay active with your kids-- check in & see how they are doing with their push ups, sit ups, flexibility, endurance & agility :). That is all vocabulary they should be comfortable with.
January is almost done! We are doing hand - eye coordination with 4 square, wall ball & other games along with fitness fun.  Moving into net games in February with pickle ball, as well as foot volley so it's not all about the upper body coordination!  Hope this year is great for you---!

NOVEMBER---Happy Thanksgiving

We have been thankful for lots of things...big, little and in-between all this month in PE.  I've loved what your kids have to say-- from the obvious: family, mom, dad, brothers, friends, pets, shelter, food to RMNP, electricity, snow, good weather, clean air, alarm clocks, etc.
We have also been working on hockey but stealing away outside when we can because we can't miss being active outside when the weather is good!  When we get back from break it will be December!  Crazy.... our plan is to do net sports, however, we are waiting for some equipment & if it isn't ready, we will do beach games.  Either way-- we will be actively learning here in PE.  Enjoy your family -- I'm thankful for APEX and the opportunity to be with your kids!

OCTOBER....

We have been working on catching and throwing and putting it into a new game for our PE classes called Tchoukball.  It actually is popular enough to have a world championship, despite most of us never hearing about it.  It is classified as a net game, however it plays similar to a hand ball game.  A crazy twist is there is no defense in the sense of guarding or intercepting... which is hard to control, because we are so use to it in other games.  I have really enjoyed it and hope your kids do also.  It's good to adapt and change.... essential actually :)

Sept 16th-- FRISBEE AND FITNESS

We have dedicated September to frisbee and fitness.  We have gone off campus for the mile.  Across the street at Sunset Middle School there is a track which makes running the mile a better experience than running many laps inside or running on cement.  Fortunately they are friendly enough to share.  Unfortunately, sometimes the city waters way too much and it gets muddy (it is not paved).  This happened Monday (today), so our endurance run was just jogging around the dry areas of grass.  If we are going over to Sunset area, I will let you know so that if you are needing to pick up your child early or drop them off later - you will know.
It's been great getting to know your kids-- overall, flexible, fun and with a great attitude!  If they ever have an injury or sickness where you don't think they should participate--send a note via email or hand written.  That way we are all on the same page as far as what is best for the student.  Thanks!

mile run....

We got out and tested the waters.... new location, new plan-- We were able to use the neighbor's track (Sunset Middle School).  Some students have not been running, so they stuck with a 1/2 mile.  Some students took the challenge and ran the whole mile.  Either way, I was proud of their focus and attention to the goal.  We provide PE fitness testing to give each student more knowledge about themselves and what they are capable of.... it is not to be graded or compared to others, just great information with what they are capable of and if they prepare how much better things will go.  We will also do sit ups, push ups, v-sit, and the shuttle run.  We try to do this in the fall, in winter and in spring.  Great job APEX students!

1st week in the books :]

I really enjoyed my Tuesday and Wednesday.... I have yet to be here for class on Monday, since I had to miss the first day of classes.  I believe it all went well however.  If there are any concerns or questions, please email me!  The students are awesome, the space is great (we are still working on bettering the acoustics, but kids have been wonderful at following instructions and this helps a lot!) and I am looking forward to a super fun school year!!!!!
CHEERS!
