The following is a copy of the assignment I shared with Cultural Cooking students on the first day of class as a google doc. I'll copy it here for parents who want to help their students. As explained to students in class, we'll take turns presenting throughout the year, but I do expect students to complete the slideshow by the first week of December, even if they won't be presenting until next semester. We've already worked on it quite a bit in class, so I don't expect this assignment to take too much time at home.
Culture is defined as “the customs, arts, social institutions, and achievements of a particular nation, people, or other social group.” Your presentation should try to capture different aspects of your selected culture, ASIDE FROM THEIR FOOD, so that we as a class can have a larger understanding and deeper connection to the food and culture we will be experiencing.
Cultural Cooking Slideshow Requirements:
- Title Slide must include:
- The name of the country/countries, and any alternative names it commonly goes by.
- A large closeup map of the country/area.
- A map of the country/area on a world map.
- 10 Cultural Fact Slides must all include:
- An interesting fact about the country or culture. Does not have to do with food. These must be written in complete sentences with attention to correct capitalization, grammar, and punctuation. These must be written in your own words.
DO NOT just copy and paste from the internet. This is called plagiarism and is against the law.
- At least one type of appropriate and applicable visual, such as photos, maps, or videos, per slide. These must be school appropriate and used to help solidify the information in your presentation.
- A Sources Slide must include:
- A list of ALL websites you used for your presentation. You are just required to include the URL. No minimum amount required but please give credit where credit is due - don’t skip any used websites.
- Presentation Counts:
- The format of the presentation needs to be easy to follow and clearly organized for the class. The presenter must attempt to answer basic questions the class may have.
Please keep in mind that Mrs. Oien may be presenting your slideshow to the other Cultural Cooking classes so your slideshow needs to contain enough information that viewers would understand it even if you are unable to present it to them yourself.
