Wednesday: Homework Updates for the Spring Break

Hello APEX students and families,

I hope you are all safe and healthy. I have missed seeing all the students and doing some math together. These past few days have seen some dramatic changes in our day-to-day lives and in our communities that can feel overwhelming to us. I hope you get to spend some relaxed time together at home during this break.

Given the current circumstances, we are missing a week of instruction time. I am posting homework for Algebra 1, Precalc/Trig and Pre-algebra students that include reading some extra lessons and doing the problem sets related to these lessons. If any of the content is confusing, we will review this content in our next class. Do your homework to the best of your ability and if any of the problems don't make sense, we will go over those together after the break.

There is no homework for consumer math students. :-)

All homework that was assigned last Wednesday is now due on Wednesday, April 1st along with the homework that is assigned this week.

In the meantime, hope you all stay safe and healthy.

Take care

Thank you
Usha Narayanswamy

Monday: Homework updates for spring break

Hello APEX students and families,

I hope you are all staying safe and healthy. These past few days have seen some dramatic changes in our day-to-day lives and in our communities that can feel overwhelming to us. I hope you get to spend some relaxed time together at home during this break.

Given the current circumstances, we are missing a week of instruction time. I am posting homework for pre-algebra students that include reading some extra lessons and doing the problem sets related to these lessons. If any of the content is confusing, we will review this content in our next class. We will positively connect after the break and will continue our classes based on decisions that the district makes.

Similar homework assignments will be assigned for Algebra 1 and Precalculus/Trig students on Wednesday.

There is no homework for consumer math students.

All homework that was assigned last Monday is now due on Monday, May 30th along with the homework that is assigned this week.

In the meantime, hope you all stay safe and healthy.

Thank you
Usha Narayanswamy

Updates on Monday

Hello Families,

The last 24 hours have changed so much in our community and of a sudden, we have 2 weeks of spring break!

I would like all my students (including my Friday students) to get some rest and relax and not worry about their classes with me! I will send updates (including any homework for the core math classes) beginning of next week.

Have a good weekend!

Mrs. Narayanswamy

Week 25 of Classes: Wednesday, Mar 11

Hello APEX Families,

Here's the summary of classes today:

Algebra 1: Students learned to simplify multivariable fractions with exponents. They also learned to use reverse distribute and advance reverse distribute expressions with several variables and exponents.

Homework: Assigned (see the homework post)

Precalculus/Trig: We continued our unit on vectors and learned to use them in real world applications

Homework: Assigned (see the homework post)

Pre-algebra: We wrapped up our chapter on powers and roots by learning about two special exponents, namely an exponent of 1 and 0. We started a new unit on geometry. Students learned about several vocabulary terms. such as points, lines, line segments, planes, parallel, intersecting and skew lines, and angles.

Homework: Assigned (see the homework post)

Consumer Math: Students did a great job of selling various items in the school store. We did the accounting for the store during class and then students worked on a projected budget for their "Life" simulation.

Homework: None

Problem of the Week #21: Problem of the Week #21 is posted today. Answers for last week's problems (POW #20) will be posted this Friday.

Thanks
Mrs. Narayanswamy

Week 25 of Classes: Monday, March 9

Hello APEX Families,

Here's the summary of classes today:

Algebra 1: We started a new unit on multivariable polynomials. Students learned to add, subtract and multiply such polynomials. We also learned to use the distribution and advanced distribution over multiple variables.

Homework: To be assigned on Wednesday

Precalculus/Trig: We started a new unit on vectors. Students learned the basics of vectors, how they are usually written and how vectors can be added, subtracted or multiplied by a scalar.

Homework: To be assigned on Wednesday

Pre-algebra: We wrapped up our chapter on powers and roots by simplifying fractions with powers, introducing the concept of roots and how roots and powers undo each other and two special exponents, namely an exponent of 1 and 0.

Thanks

Week 24 of Classes: Wed, March 4

Hello APEX Families,

A quick note that school store is open next week!

Here's a summary of classes today:

Algebra 1: Students took a quiz. We then went over equations with 3 or more variables. Students learned about Newton's universal law of gravitational force and how that involves 4 variables.

Homework: Assigned (see the homework post)

Precalculus/Trig: Students took a quiz. Then we wrapped up the unit on trigonometry by solving several trig equations.

Homework: Assigned (see the homework post)

Pre-algebra: We continued our unit on powers. We reviewed how to add, subtract and multiply powers. Then students learned to divide powers, simplify fractions with powers, and were introduced to the concept of roots and how roots and powers undo each other. We also took the last few minutes to talk about binary numbers and how to convert a binary number to a decimal number.

Homework: Assigned (see the homework post)

Consumer Math: Students completed their grocery list for the month and figured out the total amount they will be spending on grocery. We briefly went over some other costs to consider such as rent, utilities, car insurance, etc.

Homework: None except for students who need to bring the completed grocery list with the total monthly cost next week.

Problem of the Week #20: Problem of the Week #20 is posted today. Answers to last week's problems (POW #19) will be posted this Friday.

Thanks
Mrs. Narayanswamy
