Checking In!

Hi Everyone!

Wow, I am missing you all so much!  I hope this finds you all healthy and in good spirits.  Next week is Spring Break, but after that I will be in touch and sending out some fun activities that you can do from home!  Until then...

Interactive Math 1 Update: February

In February we have been working with some time and money.  The students were able to make "human clocks" to show the time -- this was a fun activity!  We also did some elapsed time with a game of Mathological Liar.  '

This week we reviewed and practiced our money-counting skills.  The students played a game called "Clean Up the Money!"

Next we will be going into some measurement and geometry.

Interactive Math 1 Update: January

For January, we have been working with fractions.  Fractions were introduced and we have briefly covered equivalent fractions and making wholes out of fractions.  There is so much to cover in fractions, we really could spend many weeks on this, but we will finish up our fractions activities next week and move into time and money.

Interactive Math 1 Update: December

The semester has gone by very quickly!  I cannot believe we are at break already.  We spent most of the semester reviewing and practicing our operations.  When we start again in January, we will be going straight into fractions, time and money.

I hope that everyone has a wonderful break and a great holiday season!

Interactive Math 1 Update: Week of 11/18/19

We are continuing with our activities in operations.  The students added a multiplication page to their Interactive Notebooks and have the chance to play games such as Multiplication Squares.

Today we took some time on the iPads.  The students played a game on Math Playground (a free math site) and then they signed into Prodigy.  I am sending a letter home about Prodigy.  It is a free math game that the students can play at home on a computer or tablet.  The students that already knew what it was really enjoy it.

Interactive Math 1 Update: Week of 10/28/19

We have been practicing with some operations lately.  We have practiced multiple-digit addition, subtraction and started on some early multiplication.  In doing the early multiplication the students used "peas" and "pods" to show how multiplication works.  The students had a good time with this.
This week, we took a break from operations and went back and reviewed place value and played the game, Place Value Pumpkin.

Interactive Math 1 Update: Week of 10/7/19

We have been working on rounding and some operations practice in class the last couple of weeks.  If you check your student's interactive notebook, you will see a rounding page.

Some of the games we played were Roll It! (rounding game), Mathological Liar and Counting Down.  We also did and I Have, Who Has?

In the next couple of weeks we will continue with operations practice in our games and activities.

Interactive Math 1 Update: Week of 9/16

For the past couple of weeks we have been working on place value in class.  We have created an interactive notebook page for this topic.  This is one of the longer pages we create and it takes a lot of time at the beginning of the year.

Along with the page, we were able to get some place value games in too!

In the next couple of weeks we will be working on some rounding activities/games as well as some games practicing operations.

Math Websites

Hi All!

I added a new page to my teacher page.  It is called "Useful Math Websites."  I will add links to the page as I find good sites.  Feel free to visit anytime!   Also, if you have a site you would like to share, let me know.  I will check it out and then add it to the page.

Thanks!

Interactive Math Update -- Week of 9/2/19

We had a fun Tuesday in Interactive Math!   Today the students worked on their Math Minutes and coloring pages.  We then went into game of Mathological Liar.  We will play many games of this throughout the year.  It is really good practice in story-type problems.
After the Mathological Liar, we went into addition/multiplication war.  This is a simple game involving only a deck of cards.  This would be a good game for students to use as part of their optional fact practice homework!  I did give the first stickers out to all that brought back their optional homework log.

Interactive Math -- First Week Update

Hi All!
We are off to a great start in our Interactive Math classes!  This week I gave many of the students their class folders.  These folders will stay at school and will contain  the students' class warm-up work.  I also gave out the first page for our Interactive Notebooks...the blank table of contents!  We will fill this in as we create pages for the book.

The first topic that we will really be tackling is number sense and place value.  We will then go into some rounding and more math operation fact practice.

If at any time you are curious about what games we are playing in class or where I have found games, send me an e-mail and I will let you know.

Also, the optional homework starts this week.  I will be checking the logs next week when the students come in.
