Due:
Watch the video on Calypso Rhythms. It is ok if you don't have a set of bongos. Use the low and high sounds on the head of your drum to learn the patterns. Play one or more patterns for me in a video and upload it here.
Have fun!

Hi World Percussion! I believe I accidentally skipped a week of virtual learning. Having last week off threw me so I declare we are now on week 28 online learning.
I attached another video of "Fun Djembe Rhythms." Work with the video and stop and start as needed to learn each pattern. When you are ready, record yourself playing one, or all of the patterns in this video. Let me know what you are playing before you start.
Upload video her and let me know if you have questions!

Hi! This week we are learning a "Marcha/Tumbao" pattern on our drums. This is commonly used in Afro-Cuban music and fits nicely into most percussion styles.
Do your best to learn this. Stop and Start the video as needed to do one step at a time. Record yourself playing the pattern and turn in the video here.
Email me with questions!

Watch the lesson and learn how to play all 4 drum parts. (they are super easy!)
When you have learned them, record yourself playing one of the drum parts with the music playing in the background. The music is found here on the padlet:
https://padlet.com/webb_jennifer/m89f7ihljhdfc4wb
I need to hear the music as you play to see if you are playing in time with the music.
Please submit the video to this assignment. No form. The video is how you will earn your participation points this week.

We review our clave and conga pattern and add a new challenge part in today's lesson. It is super tricky so don't stress out if you don't master it this week. We will do it again next lesson.
After watching the lesson and learning the new part, record yourself playing the new part, without the music, and turn the video in here.
Visit me in office hours for help or email me!

Please watch the video for this week's lesson and assignment. We are wrapping up clave and starting to learn the Conga part on "In Havana."
Your assignment for this week:
Record a video with you playing the Rumba Clave pattern followed by the new Conga pattern we learned today to the "In Havana" track. ( on the padlet) You must have the music playing so that I can hear it in your recording to see if you are playing along with the music correctly. You don't have to play for the entire song, just long enough so that I can observe that you can play each pattern correctly.
Please upload the video here. The video is worth 10 points and will also count as your daily participation points as well.

Now that you are an expert at recording, please record yourself playing your second favorite part of the song assigned to your class (Fire-Pit 5-8 WP and Postal workers HS WP).
If you haven't sent me your recording from last week please do it ASAP!
If I get enough variety in all the parts, this is the last recording you will need to do until December when we will record for the new songs we started.
Next week we will continue learning the new songs.
No form to fill out.
Sending in your recording also counts as your participation grade this week.

Please use this week to catch up on any missing assignments for World Percussion. You do not need to do any new recordings for me this week. When we all find out this week whether we will be coming back to in person learning or staying online, I will post a video or some comments in the class stream to let you know what direction we will be taking in World Percussion.
Please watch the two videos. This is a drum teacher named Kalani. He is going to teach you how to play 2 new rhythms. Stop and start the videos as needed to learn the patterns.
5-8 World percussion: you are required to learn Peanut Butter but not the Gotta GO rhythm unless you want the challenge.
High School World Percussion: You are required to learn both patterns.
ALL: Fill out the Week 8 form in the assignments section to earn your participation points for this week.
You may send me a recording to this assignment of these new rhythms if you want but it is not required.
