Hi World Percussion! I believe I accidentally skipped a week of virtual learning. Having last week off threw me so I declare we are now on week 28 online learning.
I attached another video of "Fun Djembe Rhythms."  Work with the video and stop and start as needed to learn each pattern. When you are ready, record yourself playing one, or all of the patterns in this video. Let me know what you are playing before you start.

Hi! This week we are learning a "Marcha/Tumbao" pattern on our drums. This is commonly used in Afro-Cuban music and fits nicely into most percussion styles.

Please watch the video for this week's lesson and assignment. We are wrapping up clave and starting to learn the Conga part on "In Havana."
Your assignment for this week:
Record a video with you playing the Rumba Clave pattern followed by the new Conga pattern we learned today to the "In Havana" track. ( on the padlet) You must have the music playing so that I can hear it in your recording to see if you are playing along with the music correctly. You don't have to play for the entire song, just long enough so that I can observe that you can play each pattern correctly.
Please upload the video here. The video is worth 10 points and will also count as your daily participation points as well.

Watch my lesson video first, then work on your clave rhythms with the Kalani video. You assignment is to keep a steady beat with one or both feet while playing the Rumba Clave Rhythm pattern on your "claves." (whatever you are using for claves)
This will take some practice, so work with the Kalani video several times before recording your video. You will receive 5 participation points and 10 assignment points for the video.

You have all worked so hard this semester so here is a fun final lesson!

Watch the following video of The William Tell Overture Finale Play along. (its short)
THEN gather the following items from your home:
Something metal you can hit with a pencil
2 pencils
Your Drum
Play along with the video following this key:
Circle=low hit on drum
X= high (edge) hit on drum
Triangle= hit metal object with pencil
Square= hit the SIDES of your drum with the pencils(one in each hand)
+= Hit the pencils together(like rhythm sticks)

Play along several times until you are an expert then have your family members join you and assign everyone their own symbol or two to play during the song.

HOMEWORK: You may turn in a video of you playing this by yourself or with your family, OR simply fill out the week 15 form. (This is how to earn points this week)
I will be posting your percussion "performance" as soon as I have recordings from everyone.

Now that you are an expert at recording, please record yourself playing your second favorite part of the song assigned to your class (Fire-Pit 5-8 WP and Postal workers HS WP).
If you haven't sent me your recording from last week please do it ASAP!
If I get enough variety in all the parts, this is the last recording you will need to do until December when we will record for the new songs we started.
Next week we will continue learning the new songs.
No form to fill out.
Sending in your recording also counts as your participation grade this week.

If you DO NOT know how to make a recording with Garage Band or another recording App, please watch the video that applies to the device you will be recording on.
If you DO know how to make a recording, please read the homework directions carefully and have fun recording!

Homework Directions:
1) Choose your favorite part to play on either Fire Pit or Postal Workers(depending on your class).
2) Once you understand how to record an audio recording on your device, set up a quite recording area in your home.
3) Open up the track (SLOW VERSION) you are going to play along with on the padlet. Needs to be played on a device other than the one you are recording on(unless you know how to use 1 device to do both).
4) Make sure you are listening to the track with headphones so it won't be picked up in the recording!
5) Tap Record (red circle) in garage band
6) Tap Play on the track on the padlet
7) start playing right after Webb counts you in on the recording- match the speed of the track
8) Listen to your recording and see if it lines up with the one you listened to. You may need to record a few times to get a recording that lines up well!
9) Share the track to your google drive and upload it to this assignment OR share it to Ms. Webb's email
10) DONE!

Please use this week to catch up on any missing assignments for World Percussion. You do not need to do any new recordings for me this week. When we all find out this week whether we will be coming back to in person learning or staying online, I will post a video or some comments in the class stream to let you know what direction we will be taking in World Percussion.
Please watch the two videos. This is a drum teacher named Kalani. He is going to teach you how to play 2 new rhythms. Stop and start the videos as needed to learn the patterns.
5-8 World percussion: you are required to learn Peanut Butter but not the Gotta GO rhythm unless you want the challenge.
High School World Percussion: You are required to learn both patterns.
ALL: Fill out the Week 8 form in the assignments section to earn your participation points for this week.
You may send me a recording to this assignment of these new rhythms if you want but it is not required.

Directions for your Playing Test for Fire Pit Patterns:
1- Video Record yourself playing all 4 patterns we have been learning.
2- Please play them to the Full Performance track
3- Announce each pattern before you play it so I know which one you are doing
4- You must play at least 30 seconds worth of each pattern
5- Each pattern is worth 10 points and you will be graded on how well you play them and how well they are lined up with the music
6- If you do not play them to the music, you will earn a failing grade and will be asked to redo them
6- Upload/submit the video to this assignment
7- Videos are due by 9am one week from today(your APEX day for class). I will deduct points for each day this test is late.
