In Each of the boxes below, copy and paste your historical first person writing. In these boxes, revise your writing adding vivid language, sensory imagery, alliteration , onomatopoeia, etc. Take out pedestrian languages or cliches. Add in interesting, unique wording.
Okokokokok.....If the free verse assignment makes you want to throw something at me....then just add to your historical fiction and past that underneath the free verse boxes. I am flexible 🤨.
In the next 5 boxes, turn your writing into Free Verse Poems using punctuation and line breaks as Karen Hesse did in “Out of the Dust.” You can have as few as 1-2 words on a line. How does this change the impact of your writing? Make any additional changes you like.
Finish all of this for Homework. Please be ready to share your favorite poem or two next week in class5/17 our last class together. 😭

Using a basic scene to further characterization
IN the most basic of scenes you can add elements that shape your character and add depth. Take your main character from your scare story and go back to the beginning. Put your character in a scene where they are eating something. It could be alone, with people, a snack or a full meal. How can you describe it in a way that tells us about your character, their mood or personality, the setting, the kind of day it is, what they are feeling, thinking....Can this simple scene contribute to your story in a meaningful way?

This week take a character or two from your writing. You are welcome to make up brand new characters in a brand new scenario, if you prefer. In 300 words (which can include description, etc. in addition to the dialogue), establish a conversation. It could be internal, or inside a character's head or external between two characters. It should shape your character, tell us about your character and help us to get to know them.
I am going to try some break out rooms next week where you will be in a group of 4 or so in order to share your writing with each other. Just wanted to give you a heads up. Thanks!

This week: Please write a small scene. Maybe 200 words.
You could even use a piece of your own flash fiction as a starting place or come up with something brand new.
Write this scene from one character’s perspective about the situation. Then, Write the same scene from another perspective. This could be a 3rd person omniscient perspective, an innocent uninvolved bystander overhearing the situation, the dog’s point of view, a fly on the wall. You get the idea!

Hi Students! Each week I will put an assignment in our Google Classroom. In the assignment will be all of the necessary links to videos, articles, etc. Our You will usually have an Exit Assignment. This will be a small activity that you can do on your own time. It should take you about 15-20 minutes. This Exit Assignment basically rounds out what would be our 55 minute class time. Then, since this class is rated a level 3 (1 hour of class time and 2 hours of homework) I will attach a homework assignment as well. You will submit assignments through Classroom. (Your homework will probably never take you 2 hours but imagine how much your writing would improve and how much you would discover about yourself if you did spend 2 hours a week or a day writing!)
Due:
Look at this picture and use it to inspire a piece of flash fiction. Your writing doesn't have to be amazing just dive and make it as spontaneous and catchy or entertaining as possible. 5 minutes or so... 100 words?
