Due:
Assignment
City of Ember Writing Assignment #1: Think about Doon's discovery of the book of old sayings on page 120 when he is researching about fire in the library. He is confused and can't make sense of things like 'hogwash' and 'in the same boat' nor could the author of the book. What does this tell you about life in Ember? What other sayings exist in our world that would make no sense in Ember? Write a complete paragraph in which you respond to each question in full. Do this on this doc or on your own paper.
Please read City of Ember, chapters 9-12 and add to magic book of notes, specifically thinking about conflicts and potential themes.
Due:
Assignment
On your world map, please find and neatly color areas of Maya mythology and write three things that you think are important to know about Maya mythology.
Then, find the area in Africa for the Yoruba tribe whose mythology we will study next and color that neatly.
Create a key to show which colors represent which mythologies. We will be adding on to this map all year, so make sure you have enough room in your legend for 6-7 total mythologies.
Due:
Assignment
Please read this Maya story: The Maize Field, The Rat, and the Tlachtli Kit and write three true/false questions about it on a separate piece of paper or doc. Include the answers!
Due:
Assignment
Please read through these pages and attempt to re-create your name (first only, unless you really want a challenge, and if so, do your last name as well!) in the Mayan Writing system. Do this on a piece of unlined paper and color it to make it stand out.
As you go, take time to ask yourself questions to ensure your understanding of the major concepts presented such as what a glyph is.
Due:
Assignment
1. Finish your Kaskia Myth, if necessary.
Here is that assignment: Create a myth that either entertains, instructs, explains or expresses hopes/fears. Use this template (click on it and then select File>Make a Copy and then you can name it with your name and the assignment) or handwrite it. Include an illustration if desired!
